Welcome to Lonely Miaow

Founded in 1990, the Lonely Miaow Association is an incorporated, non-profit organisation dedicated to the rescue and care of stray and abandoned cats and kittens in the greater Auckland area. Every day, we receive calls and emails about homeless cats and kittens from the public – they are often injured, starving or neglected. We have a list of hundreds of cats and colonies from most parts of Auckland, as far out as Albany, Clevedon, Papakura and Kumeu. We know this is just the tip of the iceberg. We utilise a Trap, Assess, Resolve (TAR) policy.

Our registered Charity Number - CC23729 | Incorporated Society Number - 681538.

Our Goal: “No More Strays”

Educate

A female cat can have three litters, around 12 kittens, per year. If six of those kittens are girls, they can start breeding within six months of being born. Suddenly, you have seven cats having 12 kittens a year, e.g 84 more cats. The population explodes quickly, and without someone caring for them, so can the misery, illness, injuries, fleas, worms, malnutrition and abuse.

Rehome

We are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray cats and kittens. Many of them come to us injured, malnourished, sick, riddled with fleas and worms, so a large part of our work lies in nurturing cats and kittens back to health, socialise them and get them ready for their furever home.

Assist

We assist members of the community who have a problem with stray cats and kittens on their property. We work alongside animal welfare organisations and other rescue groups to achieve our overarching goal of ‘No More Strays’.
