I foster to make a difference in a life which may not make it without you – everyone deserve a second chance. Also, the unconditional love you experience from your foster babies is like no other!
Introduction to Volunteering
The Lonely Miaow Association is a community based charity which relies on the generous support of people like you.
Volunteers are essential for day-to-day operations, and your contribution can bring hope to the thousands of neglected cats and kittens who are fighting for survival.
If you have a little time to spare and love to help cats and kittens, then a volunteer role could be for you!
How Can I Help?

A Rewarding Experience
In addition to the reward of helping cats and kittens in need, volunteering is a great way to gain experience, either for your CV or application for Universities. Here is what some of our volunteers have to say about helping Lonely Miaow.
I foster, because happy kittens makes happy people!
JoyceFoster Home Volunteer
I love fostering for Lonely Miaow as I get to help cats and kittens who are in need of some love, attention, and a fresh start in life. Earning the trust and creating a bond with each cat is so rewarding. Lonely Miaow has a dedicated team of volunteers who go above and beyond, and I consider myself very lucky to be a part of such a great team of people who are all working towards the same goal of saving and rehoming Auckland’s stray cats.
MelissaFoster Home and Foster Home Coordinator
I became involved with Lonely Miaow after a visit to the Pet Expo, signing on as a rescuer/trapper before taking home my first rescue to foster. In the past year, I’ve never cried, laughed, smiled and felt so much love as I have from the reward that is fostering. It’s by far the most rewarding work I’ve done in my life. Each time a cat/kitten is rehomed, you feel the most joy ever.
MarilynFoster Home and Cat Rescue Volunteer
I wanted to volunteer with Lonely Miaow, because I learned about how many cats and kittens there are in desperate need of rescuing, the more hands on deck the more that can be saved! I wasn’t in a position to donate or foster, so instead I became an Admin Volunteer. It was very rewarding knowing I was part of helping animals get rescued and put into foster homes, and I loved that I could fit the work around my busy life!
